The man of my dreams.
January 20, 2024
"I'd like to cash this check."
This is not the introductory phrase spoken to me (by him) in my dreams. Not even close. But, I looked up and there he was. Standing directly in front of me, alive in the flesh. Fritz Robinson (of THE Swiss family Robinson), aka Danno (of Hawaii 5-0), aka actor James McArthur, stood less than two feet away. And he spoke. Out loud.
To ME.
“I’d like to cash this check.”
Every speck of my expert bank teller training vanished into thin air. I am transported to the remote island in the East Indies where the Robinsons were castaways and dreamy Fritz fell in love with me instead of that #$%& interloper, Roberta, who Fritz rescued from the pirates. 🌴
He speaks. Again. Looking directly at ME.
“Um…can I cash a check?”
I am frozen in place, mesmerized by his beautiful blue eyes and curly hair… 😵
FAST FORWARD...
Another day in paradise, a few years later. An older and wiser me is giving a visiting friend a guided tour of Oahu and places only we locals knew about. Places like the home of Tom Selleck, aka Thomas Magnum (Magnum PI), aka Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Blue Bloods).
As I drive past his house . . . v e r y s l o w l y . . .
I look up, and there he is. Rising out of the swimming pool like Triton. Or Poseidon. Or one of the other legendary mermen. Except Tom isn’t half fish. Oh no, he is all man, trust me. 😳
BACK TO FRITZ...
The teller next to me speaks up. To him. "I'll cash your check, sir." In an instant, he walks out of my life. Forever.
Do I still have crushes on people like, say, Justin Timberlake? Of course not. Have I given up on true love? Nope, I found it in real life. 💕 Would I call myself a romantic? Guilty as charged.
"Book ‘em, Danno." 👮
👉 Meanwhile, James MacArthur's bookkeeper would have recorded this transaction as a debit to his cash account (unless the check was from his own account — information I will never know since I was unable to cash said check).

- Recording financial transactions on a daily basis
- Posting debits and credits
- Producing invoices
- Maintaining and balancing current accounts, historical accounts and general ledgers
- Completing payroll
What books does a bookkeeper keep?
- General Journal
- General Ledger
- Cash Receipt Journal
- Cash Disbursement Journal
- Sales Journal
- Purchase Journal
What's the difference between cash and accrual accounting?
The difference lies in the timing of when sales and purchases are recorded in your books. Cash accounting recognizes revenue and expenses only when money changes hands, but accrual accounting recognizes revenue when it’s earned, and expenses when they’re billed (but not paid). Learn more
